Spain Israel Sanctions

Recognition of Palestinian state by Ireland and Norway sparks diplomatic crisis with Israel

Israel recalls ambassadors, threatens sanctions after Dublin and Oslo recognize Palestinian statehood

Israel has recalled its ambassadors to Ireland and Norway and pledged to recall its envoy to Spain after the three countries recognized the Palestinian state. The move has sparked a diplomatic crisis between Israel and the European nations.

Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz said the decision to recognize a Palestinian state undermined Israel's sovereignty and threatened its security.

"This is a unilateral and irresponsible move that will only harm the chances of achieving a two-state solution," Katz said in a statement. "Israel will not tolerate any attempt to undermine its sovereignty or security."

The recognition of the Palestinian state by Ireland, Norway, and Spain is a significant diplomatic victory for the Palestinians. It is the first time that European countries have recognized the Palestinian state since the United Nations General Assembly voted to recognize it in 2012.

The Biden administration has signaled that it will support the move by Ireland, Norway, and Spain. The Trump administration had opposed the recognition of the Palestinian state, but the Biden administration has said that it believes a two-state solution is the only way to achieve a lasting peace between Israelis and Palestinians.

The recognition of the Palestinian state by Ireland, Norway, and Spain is likely to put pressure on other European countries to do the same. It could also lead to increased support for the Palestinian state at the United Nations and other international organizations.
